Public I Private Housing Project
Building has finally commenced on a block of flats in Parramatta for people who suffer form mental illness. Ownership will be a public/private partnership and support services will be provided. This will be the first of its kind in N.S.W. Four HKA members have been on the committee for this project for the last few years. It has been a long road but the building should be completed in early 2008. Legal details are being finalised and we hope to carry the details in our next Newsletter.

Many thanks to Christine Farrell who held an "Open Garden" day at her home on Saturday 26th May and has kindly offered to donate proceeds from this day to HKA.
Lucky Country
In the same week that an investment advisor gains $3 billion through the partial float of his company, the Hornsby Advocate ran an article about 100 - 200 people who are living in the bush between Hornsby and Brooklyn.
One voluntary carer said that most of them had "nowhere to go" and some were mentally ill. Often 15 - 20 people turn up at Brooklyn where the Salvation Army hands out clothes and food on a regular basis.
Our Politicians spend millions of dollars on luxuries such as sport. In this Federal election year, we might remind them strongly about those who are disadvantaged.

The booklet will help parents of children with a severe disability to understand all the options available when they are planning for the future care and accommodation of their child. The booklet contains information about setting up a trust, how to access legal and financial advice, useful contacts and planning templates.
The booklet complements the “Special Disability Trust: Getting Things Sorted” publication which you may also find useful.
Printed copies of the booklet can be obtained by phoning Freecall 1800 050 009 and quoting the product number FaCSIA0235.
